Greenhouses can be traced back more than 2,000 years!

The development history of greenhouses in the world can be traced back to ancient times, and has gone through multiple stages and technological innovations. ‌
The development of early greenhouses

As early as more than 2,000 years ago, humans began to use protective facilities to grow vegetables. In the Western Han Dynasty, China had begun to use greenhouses to grow off-season vegetables, heating them by burning wood. This method was recorded in detail in the “Book of Han”. In Europe in the 3rd century AD, the ancient Roman Emperor Tiberius used wooden boxes filled with soil to grow snake melons and kept the indoor temperature with mica sheets. This method is basically the same as the principle of modern greenhouses. ‌
The development of modern greenhouses

In the 17th century, Europe began to use glass greenhouses, and in the early 19th century, Britain developed double-layer glass greenhouses, mainly for growing citrus, grapes and other crops. In the 1960s, modern greenhouses gradually developed around the world, especially developed countries such as the Netherlands, the United States, and Israel, which vigorously developed intensive greenhouse industries, and the environment in the greenhouse was computer-controlled. Most modern greenhouses are large multi-span greenhouses. Plastic film greenhouses account for about 600,000 square kilometers, mainly distributed in Asia; glass greenhouses account for about 40,000 square kilometers, mainly distributed in Europe and the United States; new covering material polycarbonate board greenhouses have also developed rapidly.
